Is there an artist lurking inside you or someone in your family? If you have ever wanted to participate in an “ARTsplosion” this is your chance. Chalk the Walk is a community-wide event in Virginia Beach, VA, where registered participants can go wild with chalk, creating one-of-a-kind art that covers three blocks! No professional training is required, although professional artists do participate. It’s a great way to meet your neighbors, create temporary street art, and share a beautiful smile.
Where Does Chalk the Walk Take Place?
Participants and viewers convene on the Boardwalk at 17th Street. The precise address for registrants is 1701 Atlantic Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. Viewers (who are not drawing) are also very welcome to stroll and admire the art.
When Does the Chalking Happen?
The event begins at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 7. Those wishing to compete must be registered by 12:30, and finished by 3:30.
How Does It Work?
Chalkers draw on a theme, “A World of Magic,” in individual 4 x 4 foot areas. Participants are encouraged to bring their own chalk. There will be over 200 competitors, who will be divided by Youth, Amateur and Professional. There will be trophies and cash awards at the end of the day. Children under 11 are invited to draw just for fun in a special area. Their drawings will not be part of the competition, but are a delight to see.
