How do you feel about the appearance of your smile? If you would like to make big changes in smile beauty before spring is here, we can help! In today’s blog, your Virginia Beach, VA, dentist is talking about our cosmetic treatments and how they transform the beauty of your smile.
Your Cosmetic Consultation
Cosmetic dentistry refers to procedures that are meant to improve the beauty of your smile first and foremost. These are designed to address esthetic issues so you can smile with confidence again. When you schedule a consultation with our team, we will take detailed digital x-ray and intraoral camera images of the smile to understand the cause and extent of your cosmetic concerns. We then create a treatment plan to address these concerns and offer cosmetic improvement.
Teeth Whitening Treatments
Our team actually offers two different teeth whitening options. The first is an in-office option that could provide optimal results in one visit, usually in one to two hours. The process is simple. We will apply a covering to your lips and gums, and then place a bleaching gel directly onto the teeth. Using a special light, we activate the bleaching ingredients to break up stains and offer a more attractive smile. This is great if you need results in a short time frame.
For handling more severe stains, we have an at-home option that could brighten smiles by up to eight shades. You first stop by the office long enough for our team to create a set of plastic trays. We then send these trays home with you, along with plastic syringes containing a powerful bleaching gel. You fill the trays with them and wear them for a set amount of time each day, usually about an hour. After one to two weeks, this could brighten smiles by several shades.
Bonding
When we place fillings, we use a composite resin that is metal free and can be shaded to blend with your tooth. But did you know we can use the same material to tackle cosmetic concerns too? With dental bonding, we can remove decay, etch the surfaces, and apply the material in several layers, and then sculpt the tooth as we cure the composite resin under a light. The procedure takes one visit, and can mask permanent teeth stains, close unsightly gaps between teeth, lengthen worn down teeth, and repair chipped or cracked teeth.
Dental Contouring
We also have another single visit treatment option with contouring. The contouring procedure doesn’t rely on adding new materials to the tooth. Instead, we actually sand and buff the outer structure to correct multiple concerns. For example, we can correct the appearance of minor chips, reshape overly large teeth, and dull sharp, pointed, or jagged portions of outer structure. We can also smooth our pits, grooves, and rough patches in the outer tooth structure.
Gum Contouring
What if you have cosmetic concerns with the gums? If you have a gummy smile, then your smile displays too much gum when you smile, which could make teeth appear small or uneven. With the gum contouring process, we use laser dentistry to gently trim away and remove excess tissues. We then improve symmetry in the gum line. The procedure takes one visit, and most people return to normal activities the next day.
Porcelain Veneers
We also have a treatment that can transform the entire smile in as little as two visits. Porcelain veneers are very thin restorations that we attach to the front of your teeth. They instantly reshape the teeth and mask issues with the surfaces and color, transforming the appearance. Made from a durable material, they can last for years to come and handle multiple concerns at once, from teeth stains and misshapen teeth to unsightly gaps and even the appearance of minor misalignment.
Invisalign® Clear Aligners
Our team even offers a clear approach to treating misalignment. With the Invisalign® system, our team will use a series of clear and custom aligners, which offer comfort and are practically invisible when worn. These shift the teeth into optimal positions, often in as little as one year! They can also be removed to make brushing and flossing easier, and to avoid the need for changing your diet.
