When you have issues with the appearance of your smile, such as stained or misshapen smiles, then you need cosmetic dentistry to obtain results that boost the appearance of your smile. We offer a full range of treatment options that can be customized for your smile. In today’s blog, your Virginia Beach, VA dentist talks about cosmetic dental care.
Starting Your Cosmetic Consultation
If you have issues with the appearance of your smile, then contact our team to schedule a cosmetic consultation. We will talk to you about esthetic issues and your hopes for your smile. We will also conduct a detailed examination with advanced digital technology, so we can assess the cause and severity of your cosmetic concerns and plan treatment. Every smile is unique, so we will always offer a custom approach to your treatment. In fact, we could use a combination of treatments to make over your smile too!
In-Office and Take-Home Teeth Whitening
We have two teeth whitening treatment options to choose from. For fast results, you could schedule an in-office procedure, in which we will apply a preventive covering to your lips and gums and place a powerful bleaching gel onto the surfaces of your teeth. We then activate the gel with a light to brighten teeth, removing stains and offering major results in as little as one to two hours.
To address more substantial staining and limit tooth sensitivity, we could also offer a take-home option. You stop by our office just long enough for us to take impressions of your smile and create a set of custom plastic trays. You take these home with you, along with several plastic syringes of bleaching gel. You simply fill the trays with the gel and wear them for a specific amount of time each day, over a period of one to two weeks. Your teeth could be up to eight shades brighter, and you can keep the trays and any remaining gel for touch-ups in the months to come!
Dental Bonding and Cosmetic Contouring
Our team could offer cosmetic dental treatments that provide results in only one sitting. With dental bonding, we use the same composite resin as we employ in our tooth-colored fillings. This is shaded to blend with your tooth and applied in several layers. We then sculpt and mold the tooth as we cure the composite resin under a light. Bonding can be sure to mask permanent teeth stains, close gaps between teeth, repair minor chips or cracks, and lengthen worn down structures too. We complete it by polishing the teeth for a brighter appearance.
Contouring can be done in the same visit and takes a different approach. We don’t add to the tooth, instead we will gently sand and buff the outer structures to correct the appearance of minor chips, reshape overly large or misshapen teeth, and smooth out pits, grooves, and rough patches. We can also dull sharp, jagged, or pointed portions of the teeth too.
Gum Contouring
If you have a smile that shows off too much gum and makes your teeth appear small or uneven, we can reshape the gum line in one visit with advanced laser dentistry. We carefully mark the areas where gums need to be removed and then use lasers to begin gently trimming away tissues and reshape the gum line in the process. This takes only one visit, and rarely requires anesthesia. The lasers target areas with precision and avoid damaging the healthy tissues left behind. The area heals fast, so you can often return to your normal routine in as little as 24 hours. The risk of bleeding, swelling, and infection is much lower, since we don’t use scalpels or sutures as part of the treatment.
Invisalign® Aligners
What if you have crooked or crowded teeth? In these situations, our team could create a series of plastic aligners that are completely clear, and nearly invisible when worn. You wear a set for about 20 to 22 hours a day over a period of two weeks, and then begin wearing the next set for the same amount of time. You repeat this process and obtain optimal results in as little as a year in some cases. If you have any questions about cosmetic dentistry, then contact our team today.
