Candidacy for Pure Power Mouthguard

Professional and college athletes alike are lining up to get their custom-fitted Pure Power Mouthguard (PPM). From Michael Redd of the Milwaukee Bucks, to Manny Ramirez of the Los Angeles Dodgers, athletes from every area of the sporting world are singing the praises of PPM. Now this amazing advancement in neuromuscular dentistry is available to everyone.

PPM works by aligning your jaw, leading to increased core balance, postural stability, relaxed face, neck, and jaw muscles, and opening airways to increase oxygen flow to your vital organs. Increased oxygen flow leads to a boost in stamina, strength, and overall performance; giving you the edge you need to compete on today’s playing fields.

PPM is ideal for all athletes. Swimmers, runners, and cyclists will benefit from increased stamina, and strength. If you play a sport like lacrosse, football, baseball, or soccer, you will benefit from the increased core balance, and reported increased range of motion. Players in contact sports receive the additional benefit of added safety. Because your PPM is custom-fitted, it provides support and safety the traditional boil-and-bite mouthguards lack.

If you are an athlete who would like to learn about enhanced performance, increased stamina, and optimal safety, please contact Michael Folck, DDS to discuss PPM, and set up an initial consultation.

Candidacy for Dental Implants

Do your missing teeth cause you to be self conscious in social situations? Do they interfere with basic functions like chewing, or impede speech? Have you replaced missing teeth with dentures but grown tired of the maintenance, and potential for malfunction? Then you are a candidate for dental implants.

Implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth. Because they are permanently affixed to your jawbone, replacement and removal are unnecessary. This is good news for people with dentures who want a more permanent fix, as well as for people who have never looked into replacing missing teeth.

The implant procedure takes a bit of time, but it is this very process that ensures their durability and permanence. From your initial consultation to the final process of placing dental caps, Dr. Folck is experienced, reliable, and pays careful attention to detail making sure your dental implants are comfortable, secure, and effective.

Anyone missing teeth is an ideal candidate for dental implants. It’s never too late to restore your smile to its most brilliant, functional form.

If you live in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and would like more information about how dental implants can have a positive effect on your smile, please contact Michael Folck, DDS for an initial consultation.

Tooth Decay Beneath a Crown

When a tooth becomes severely decayed, a simple filling may not be enough to stop or repair the damage. In these instances, a crown is your best option for stopping further damage from being done.

Tooth decay is caused by sugary foods. The bacteria that live in plaque eat the sugars and produce an acidic waste product that eats at tooth enamel. Sometimes these acids can continue to eat at enamel for up to 20 minutes. Over time, the damage done by this acid can cause cavities.

Cavities can be painful. They can also cause bad breath, and discolored teeth. If left untreated, cavities can lead to abscess, resulting in fever, swollen glands, and deep throbbing pain.

In the case of severe decay, it may be necessary to fit the tooth with a dental crown. A crown fits perfectly over the decayed tooth, preventing further decay, eliminating pain, and restoring function and beauty.

All decay is removed from the effected tooth and a mold is made to cast your new crown. Careful attention is paid to the shape and color of your new crown to ensure a natural looking fit. A temporary crown is placed over the tooth to provide comfort and function until your new crown is ready.

After the permanent crown has been placed, you can resume your normal activities right away, secure in the fact that the decay has been removed, and further problems avoided.

If you would like more information on crowns and the prevention of tooth decay, please contact Dr. Michael Folck, DDS for an initial consultation.

Lifespan of Dental Crowns

Like fine China, anything, when properly taken care of, can last a lifetime. Teeth are, however, not like fine China. Teeth need to be strong, able to withstand tension, and compression to ensure maximum comfort and ease. You might also want them aesthetically pleasing.

With proper care and a bit of luck, your natural teeth may last a lifetime. But what happens when a tooth gets cracked or chipped through trauma, loses functionality due to decay, or has become discolored or misshapen? That’s where dental crowns come in.

Dental crowns can be used to cover teeth damaged by decay, repair teeth chipped or cracked by trauma, or restore beauty to unsightly teeth. Like all dental restoration, a crown cannot be guaranteed to last forever, but with a solid oral health routine, you can maximize its lifespan.

The average lifespan of a crown is ten years. This is not an indication that after ten years the crown will need to be replaced, or a guarantee that it will not need to be replaced before that, but it is a number we feel confident giving our patients based on years of experience, and our confidence in the structural integrity of the crowns created in our dental labs.

If you live in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and would like more information on dental crown procedures, and longevity, please contact Michael Folck, DDS for an initial consultation.

General Dentistry Procedures

General dentistry is a wide ranging field with procedures as diverse as routine checkups to surgery on the gums. It includes all of the procedures necessary to ensure you and your family's oral health.

With mounting evidence between oral hygiene and overall health, it is becoming increasingly obvious just how important it is to visit your dentist at least twice a year. Links between oral health and diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and even fetal health in pregnant women are currently being researched, and all evidence points to the same thing: oral health is imperative to total health.

General dental procedures include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleanings and checkups to prevent, and diagnose potential problems.
  • Dental fillings, to repair damage from decay or other sources.
  • Bonding/resurfacing to fill chips and cracks that can lead to decay.
  • Dental Crowns to incase decayed or damaged teeth preventing further problems.
  • Root canals to remove infection from the root of the tooth.
  • Dental bridges, dentures, and dental implants to replace missing teeth.
  • Periodontal (gum) disease treatment to restore your gums to their healthiest state.
  • Snoring treatment to increase restful sleep and prevent potentially serious consequences.
  • Pediatric dentistry to address the unique needs of infant’s and children’s teeth.

These procedures and more can be preformed within the comfort of our office, often within a single session.

If you live in Virginia Beach, Virginia, please contact Michael Folck, DDS for all of your general dentistry needs.

Dental Cost Considerations

From cleaning to repair, all dental procedures have an associated cost. There is a common misperception that outside of maintenance – cleaning, filling, and so on – dental procedures are cost prohibitive and unnecessary.

Teeth can be whitened, or strengthened through common dental procedures. Unsightly cracks, chips, and uneven surfaces can be smoothed over, filled in, and fortified for increased functionality, and aesthetics. Missing or broken teeth can be replaced or capped, not only making chewing and speaking easier, but improving the overall appearance of your smile. These things, in addition to routine checkups, lead to optimal oral health, wellness, and comfort.

When considering the cost of dental work, it is important to think outside of monetary limitations. A price tag can not be placed on restoring functionality, boosting self esteem, and allowing you comfort and ease in social situations. But a price tag comes with any procedure related to these things, and we understand that needs to be a consideration. That’s why we work closely with you on flexible, custom financing plans, to make sure financial considerations don’t interfere with your ability to have the smile you’ve always wanted.

If you live in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and would like to perfect your smile but never thought you could afford to, please contact Michael Folck, DDS for an initial consultation, and an overview of your payment options.
